Ilocos Norte — Ilocos Norte Representative Angelo Marcos Barba marked World Wildlife Day by leading the ceremonial release of rehabilitated Brahminy Kites, underscoring the importance of wildlife conservation and environmental stewardship.

During the event, Barba highlighted the ecological significance of Brahminy Kites, describing them as symbols of balance, resilience, and freedom. He emphasized their role in maintaining ecosystems by controlling populations of small animals and cleaning up carrion. However, he also warned that habitat destruction, pollution, and human activities threaten the species, making conservation efforts more critical than ever.

"This event is not just about releasing birds back into the wild — it’s a reminder of our responsibility to protect their habitats and ensure a future where humans and wildlife coexist," Barba said.

The lawmaker expressed his gratitude to wildlife conservation groups, researchers, and volunteers involved in rehabilitating the raptors. He called on the public to take action, whether through environmental advocacy, supporting rehabilitation efforts, or making sustainable lifestyle choices.
