Police rescued nine individuals from an alleged human trafficking operation on 8 March 2025, intercepting them along the National Highway in Brgy. Tinagacan. The operation led to the arrest of two suspects, while two others remain at large.
The operation was launched after one of the victims reported being recruited under false pretenses by individuals posing as Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel and representatives from the Office of the President. The suspects allegedly promised enlistment in the PCG in exchange for ₱120,000 per person. The victims were aboard a Yellow Bus bound for Davao City, intending to proceed to Manila.
A team led by PMaj. Jenahmeel G. Tonacao of the CIDG 12 Regional Special Operations Task Force (RSOT) intercepted the bus at a border checkpoint in Brgy. Tinagacan. The two suspects arrested on-site were residents of General Santos City. Authorities are still searching for two suspects who remain at large. The suspects face charges under Republic Act 9208 (Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act) and Usurpation of Authority.
Law enforcement officials continue their investigation into the trafficking scheme, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent further exploitation. For further information or to report trafficking activities, the public is encouraged to contact the General Santos City Police Office (GSCPO) or the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 12.
