Piolo-Juday reunion movie? Judy Ann Santos weighs in

Fans have long been waiting for a reunion movie between Judy Ann Santos and Piolo Pascual, but according to the actress, there is still no definite timeline for when — or if — it will happen.

During a YouTube interview with Maricel Soriano, Santos was asked when she thinks the right time would be for them to work together again in a film.

"Parang ilang years nang tinatanong 'yan, parang mahigit isang dekada na. Hindi ko alam (kung kailan)," she admitted. "Para sa akin, napakahirap makahanap ng magandang materyal na hindi makikitaan ng comparison or hindi maiisip na, ‘Ah, ginaya ito sa ganitong [movie] — ‘yung original concept.’”

("It feels like this question has been asked for years — probably more than a decade now. I honestly don’t know [when it will happen]. For me, it’s really difficult to find a good story that won’t be compared to previous films or make people think, ‘Oh, this was just copied from another movie — rather than being an original concept)."

Santos revealed that numerous story concepts have been pitched to both her and Pascual, but she is very selective when it comes to finding the right one.

"Sa totoo po, marami namang pini-present na mga istorya sa akin or probably kay Piolo din, pero palagi akong may napagbabasehang ibang pelikula, palaging may ganun," she explained.

"For me, it should be a very original concept that’s worth it."

("To be honest, a lot of stories have been presented to me, or probably to Piolo as well, but I always find myself comparing them to other films. There’s always that element of similarity,")

Having moved on from their on-screen tandem and once-speculated romance, Santos expressed her happiness for Pascual’s achievements.

"I'm happy for Piolo na ang dami niyang nagagawa ngayon. Ang layo nang narating niya. Okay na ako na naging part ako ng career niya," she shared.

("I'm happy for Piolo and everything he's accomplishing now. He has come so far. I'm content knowing that I was once part of his career.")

Despite this, she remains open to the possibility of working with Pascual again — if the perfect project comes along.

"Hindi ko rin naman sinasabi na it will not happen. It’s just hard to say kung kailan siya mangyayari kasi kailangan ‘yung materyal mismo — mula director, production company, writer, and all — kailangan worth it. Kailangan okay na okay talaga ‘yung materyal," she said.

("I’m not saying it will never happen. It’s just hard to say when it will, because everything — the material itself, the director, the production company, the writer, and all — needs to be worth it. The project really has to be exceptional.")

Santos and Pascual, once one of the most popular on-screen pairs in Philippine cinema, starred in several ABS-CBN projects, including the 2003 film Till There Was You and the 2006 romantic drama Don’t Give Up On Us.
