If elected, lawyer and educator Angelo de Alban said he will work to nationalize the “Right to Care” card, a document that allows same-sex couples in Quezon City to make medical decisions for their partners.
During the Harapan sa Diliman: A Senatorial Forum on the Equality Agenda, De Alban said the government should fund mental health assessments for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) community, as well as persons with disability (PWDs).
“We need to provide free therapy to those in need and a developmental assessment to LGBT children because we won’t know if they have problems or needs unless they undergo an assessment,” De Alban said.
“The government should prioritize the LGBTQ+ and PWDs. Expand and institutionalize what is being done in Quezon City — the ‘Right to Care’ card, which authorizes queer individuals to make medical decisions for their partners,” he said.
