Mariveles, Bataan — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a P19.3-million asphalt overlay project in Mariveles.
In a social media post on 19 February, the DPWH Bataan 3rd District Engineering Office announced the completion of the asset preservation and preventive maintenance program along Mindanao Avenue. The project aims to improve the travel experience for motorists.
The project involved a 50-mm thick asphalt overlay over a 405-meter stretch of the K0162 + (-875) to K0162 + (-710) sections, a heavily trafficked road. This enhancement improves durability and prevents early deterioration of the concrete pavement.
“Mindanao Avenue has an annual average daily traffic of around 5,000 vehicles and serves as a major route to the Mariveles town proper and the Freeport Area of Bataan,” said District Engineer Maribel Navarro.
Navarro further emphasized that the improvement project is designed to boost economic development by enhancing ride quality, safety and reliability. Mindanao Avenue is crucial for commercial transactions, logistics and workers traveling between industrial zones and techno parks.
The project also included the installation of reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings, enhancing safety and visibility at night and during adverse weather, which helps reduce the risk of accidents.
