Mark and Joreen Bautista join star-studded cast of ‘Into the Woods’

Theater fans in Manila are in for a treat as two talented Bautistas, Mark and Joreen, have joined the cast of Theatre Group Asia’s (TGA) upcoming production of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods.

Joreen Bautista, known for her captivating stage presence, will bring Rapunzel to life, while singer Mark Bautista will charm audiences as the Prince. The two join a stellar lineup of performers, including the internationally acclaimed Lea Salonga as The Witch, the comedic genius Eugene Domingo as Jack’s Mother, and the Broadway star Arielle Jacobs as Cinderella.

Into the Woods weaves together the tales of several beloved fairy tale characters, exploring their desires, fears, and the consequences of their choices. With Sondheim’s masterful music and lyrics, the musical offers a fresh and insightful look at these classic stories.

This production marks a significant milestone for both Bautistas. Joreen, who has graced international stages with her performances in Miss Saigon, will be making her musical debut in the Philippines. Mark, a seasoned singer and actor, will be venturing into the world of Sondheim for the first time, taking on the role of a prince for the very first time in his career.

“What I love about ‘Into the Woods’ is how Stephen Sondheim uses music and lyrics...and a whole lot of magic...to reveal the raw and imperfect sides of our beloved fairy tale characters, making their stories feel more human,” shared Joreen about the musical’s creator.

Mark expressed his excitement about his first Sondheim musical, quipping, “This is going to be exciting for me. Falling in love with a princess is quite interesting as well. It’s a musical with so many intriguing characters and loads of references and elements in the story.”
