Restaurants were not the only business establishments that were busy on Valentine’s Day. Hotel and motels had their fair share of income from lovers who intimately celebrated their relationship on 14 February. That is adult guests only, of course.

Hotels, inns and other similar establishments cannot let minors check in under the law, specifically Republic Act 7610, the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

In Davao City, police chief PCol. Hansel Marantan vowed to enforce the law to protect children from exploitation, warning violators they would face the appropriate legal action.

“Establishments allowing minors to check in without proper guardianship or valid reasons would be held accountable,” Marantan said, according to SunStar.

In Vlissingen, southern Netherlands, the staff of a seaside hotel had to remove an unwanted guest from one of the occupied rooms.

“It was a strange sight, the guests standing around nervously outside and the completely chilled-out seal snoozing inside,” said an animal association on its Facebook page, complete with pictures.

Hotel staff called the group to safely remove the stray seal from the room after the occupant reported the intruder.

The seal had become “quite grumpy due to its disturbed beauty sleep” and the animal rescue team placed it in a special basket to move it to its usual habitat by the beach, the group said, according to Agence France-Presse.

Hotel employee Valentijn Damen told local media Omroep Zeeland that the woman guest had no hard feelings after reclaiming her room.
