Grab helps freed PDLs start anew

First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos lauded the ride-hailing company for extending assistance to newly released PDLs, describing the motorcycles as more than just transportation but an opportunity for former inmates to earn a living and make a fresh start.
Freed persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) are getting a chance to rebuild their lives and provide for their families after Grab Philippines donated motorcycles to help them secure a source of livelihood.
In a Facebook post, Marcos expressed her appreciation to Grab Philippines chief executive officer Anthony Tan and his team for supporting the reintegration of former inmates into society.
“Good friends, great conversations and even better ways to give back! Always lovely catching up with my longtime friend Anthony Tan and the Grab team,” Mrs. Marcos said.
“Especially grateful for the motorcycles they donated to our newly released PDLs. More than just a ride, they’ve been a chance to earn a living, support a family, and begin again. Thank you, Anthony and Grab, for your generosity and for reminding us that kindness can truly change lives,” she added.
The donation follows an outreach program at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City last month, where at least 43 PDLs were released.
The First Lady witnessed the release, which was accompanied by the provision of livelihood assistance, medical services and para-legal support to help the beneficiaries transition back into their communities.
Tan, for his part, thanked Mrs. Marcos for recognizing the company’s contribution, saying that providing former inmates with opportunities to start over was a cause worth supporting.
“Thank you! Second chances do deserve a helping hand, and I’m proud Grab could play a small part,” he said.
The initiative also drew positive reactions from netizens, who welcomed the livelihood assistance as a meaningful way of helping former inmates regain their footing after incarceration.
One commenter said providing released PDLs with employment opportunities and support not only restores their hope and dignity but also benefits their families.
“When they are given a second chance — such as employment and support to start anew — hope and dignity are restored, not only for them but for their entire families as well. That is true compassion: one that is backed by action and rooted in the heart,” the netizen said in Filipino.Another commenter thanked the First Lady and Grab for extending livelihood opportunities to the beneficiaries.
“Wonderful news! Thank you, Madame First Lady, and the entire Grab team, for providing them with a second chance and a livelihood,” the commenter said.
Others described the donation as a heartwarming gesture that gives former inmates an opportunity to rebuild their lives through practical support.
Grab Philippines operates the Grab ride-hailing and delivery platform, while its motorcycle ride-hailing service, Move It, serves commuters in various parts of the country.
