The Valenzuela City police reported yesterday the arrest of a man suspected of shooting a student last 16 January in Barangay General T. De Leon.

Identified only by the authorities as “alias Piko,” the 30-year-old suspect is a resident of Barangay Parada.

Based on the police report, five friends were talking in the neighborhood close to midnight when Piko and two of his cohorts arrived and confronted the group.

Piko pulled out a gun and without any warning fired twice at his intended target whom he missed. However, a bullet hit the minor instead in the buttocks.

As panic ensued, the suspect and his accomplices escaped. The victim was rushed to the Valenzuela Medical Center for treatment.

Authorities revealed that the shooting incident stemmed from a prior dispute between the two groups.

Valenzuela Mayor Wes Gatchalian visited the scene of the shooting incident, accompanied by police officials.

“Such acts of violence will not be tolerated,” the mayor said as he vowed to hold all of the suspects accountable.

Piko is facing charges of frustrated murder and attempted murder.

Meanwhile, a man found himself behind bars for attempted double murder after the Las Piñas police arrested him in Barangay CAA.
