Senator Imee Marcos on Saturday condemned the murder in Slovenia of a Filipina allegedly by her husband days after Christmas in 2024.
In a statement, Marcos said domestic violence “has no place in a healthy and humane society.”
“The Philippines must not tolerate any kind of violence of this kind, whether in the Philippines or abroad,” she stressed.
The victim was identified as Marvil Facturan-Kocjančič, 27 years old, married to her Slovenian husband Mitja Kocjančič.
The couple was on a holiday in Slovenia. It was the first time Marvil stepped into the country, arriving on 22 December 2024, according to a circulating social media post.
Marvil was assumed to have met Mitja in April 2024 and they were married in July 2024. She passed away on 29 December 2024 due to injuries allegedly inflicted by her husband.
Marcos has called on the relevant government agencies such as the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Commission on Filipinos Overseas to investigate the case.
She also called on the Department of Justice, Department of the Interior and Local Government, the Philippine National Police, and other government agencies to strengthen their programs in combating violence against women and children as well as other forms of abuse.
