The Philippine government is working on the repatriation of the remains of a Filipino national killed by her husband in Slovenia, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Sunday.

According to DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Eduardo de Vega, the Philippine Embassy in Vienna, which covers Slovenia, is coordinating with Slovenian authorities for the repatriation of Marvil Facturan-Kocjančič.

Marvil, 27 years old, was allegedly beaten to death by her Slovenian husband, Mitja Kocjančič, while on vacation in Bled, Slovenia last 29 December 2024.

“The Slovenian government is very cooperative, and our Honorary Consul there (Philippine Honorary Consul in Bratislava) has been crucial in getting information and in coordinating,” De Vega told DAILY TRIBUNE in a text message, citing reports from Philippine Ambassador to Austria Luli Bernas.

In separate statements, Senator Imee Marcos and Senator Sherwin Gatchalian condemned the killing of the Filipino national, while calling on the DFA and concerned embassies to extend the necessary support to her family.

“The Philippines must not tolerate any kind of violence, whether in the Philippines or abroad,” Marcos said.

Gatchalian, on the other hand, urged the DFA to assert the need for a thorough and impartial investigation in coordination with the Slovenian government to ensure that the perpetrator is held accountable and brought to justice.
