Local government units (LGUs) play a key role in advancing the legislative and economic platforms of senatorial aspirant Luis "Manong Chavit" Singson, as demonstrated during his recent meeting with Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin Abalos. Held at the Mandaluyong City Hall, the gathering brought together barangay captains from across the city to discuss Singson’s vision for economic reforms and sustainability.
Mayor Abalos lauded Singson’s enduring contributions to economic progress, highlighting the transformative impact of Republic Act 7171. This landmark law, authored by Singson, allocates excise taxes from Virginia tobacco to benefit farmers in tobacco-producing provinces.
"Idolo ko si Manong Chavit. Sa ngalan ng ekonomiya. About the RA 7171," Mayor Abalos said. Sharing a personal connection to the law, he noted, "My grandfather was from San Vicente, Ilocos Sur, and there was no life there before. Until the Congressman Manong Chavit passed the bill."
During the event, Singson outlined his plans to further empower LGUs as catalysts for economic growth. He proposed integrating financing for electric vehicles through his VBank initiative, aimed at helping LGUs transition to greener transportation systems.
“Building on my 7171 bill and economic support, when in the Senate, I will propose the UBI 'Chavit 500' bill,” Singson said, referring to his universal basic income initiative. He also stressed the urgency of eliminating bureaucratic red tape to attract investors and streamline the delivery of economic support.
With LGUs serving as vital partners in his platform, Singson emphasized that collaboration with local leaders like Mayor Abalos is essential to driving sustainable progress. The event concluded with local leaders committing to work hand in hand with Singson in advocating for initiatives that empower communities and boost economic resilience.
