
Pasig City became a hub of innovation as Filipino and South Korean leaders collaborated on Saturday to unveil an e-mobility proof of concepts event, highlighting the potential of electric jeepneys in transforming public transportation in the Philippines.
The event brought together Luis “Manong Chavit” Singson, LCSC Group chairman and senatorial candidate, and Rep. Richelle Louise Singson, alongside South Korea’s e-mobility experts: Young-Jin Joo, CEO of E-Mon Co. Korea; Jong Gwan Rah, Director of the Korea Automotive Technology Institute (KATECH); Ahn Jae-Bum, Director of E-Mon Korea; and LCSC E-Mon Operations Manager Jinhee Kim.
In his opening remarks, Manong Chavit emphasized the significance of modernizing the country’s transportation system through electric vehicles.
“This marks the beginning of a sustainable and innovative future for the Philippines. By adopting electric jeepneys, we aim to create a positive environmental impact and enhance the daily lives of Filipinos,” he said.
Rep. Singson echoed this sentiment, underlining the importance of international cooperation.
“This initiative is a testament to how collaboration can address urban mobility challenges. Your work sets a benchmark for innovation and sustainability,” she noted.
Jong Gwan Rah offered technical insights, discussing Micro-EVs, proof-of-concept processes, and their role in fostering equitable and sustainable mobility.
“Our goal is to promote fairness and innovation in the future of transportation, ensuring these advancements benefit all sectors of society,” Rah said.
The event showcased the electric jeepneys, featuring a sleek, modern design and eco-friendly technology.
The vehicles represent a significant step toward addressing urban mobility challenges and reducing carbon emissions, as part of a nationwide push for sustainable public transportation.
