DOH logs 8 new cases of firework-related injuries
Published on:

The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday logged eight new cases of firecracker-related injuries, bringing the total number of cases this year to 25.

Of the figure, 23 are male, while two are female. Meanwhile, 20 of the victims are aged 20 above, while eight are 19 years old below.

The DOH urged the public to avoid the use of fireworks, report those using and selling illegal fireworks, and keep gunpowder products such as small firecrackers (watusi) away from children to prevent inhalation.

The Health department also recommended the use of alternative noise sources such as drums, pots, or karaoke or watch a community fireworks display instead hosted by the local government unit.

Since the majority of firework-related injury victims are children, the DOH urged parents and guardians to supervise children and other young people to avoid using fireworks.

It also advised the public to be prepared and have a first aid kit ready in case of injury due to fireworks.

The public is reminded that the National Emergency hotline can be reached at 911, while the DOH hotline is 1555 for any assistance.
