Philippine national men’s football team head coach Albert Capellas rued their missed chances after settling for a 1-1 draw against Myanmar at the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
The Spanish mentor said they need to be more precise with their shots to increase their chances of winning.
The Philippines had 22 attempts with eight shots on target against the Burmese.
“The first half was good. There were a lot of chances and a lot of situations where we could have scored. We needed to finish more calmly and use less power,” Capellas said.
“The second half, there were ups and downs but I’m much less happy because the game was open and we gave away even more chances because of us and not because they deserve it.”
Currently, the Philippines is at third in Group B with one draw.
The Nationals need to finish in the top two spots to secure their spot in the semifinal round.
As the Philippines faces Laos on Sunday at the New Laos Stadium in Vientiane, Capellas hopes they will be able to continue their momentum as they try to collect wins.
“That means now we have to also believe in ourselves to build this culture of winning, to feel comfortable, and to try to win,” Capellas said.
“We are much closer now and it will come. If we continue like this, then the wins will come. I’m not worried at all.”
