A policeman chopped up a fellow cop in Camp Bagong Diwa in Lower Bicutan, Taguig City after discovering the victim in an intimate situation with his wife.
A report from the Southern Police District (SPD) showed the crime occurred on 28 November.
The victim, who was not identified, held the rank of police executive master sergeant. Investigator said the victim's body was found on 5 December buried in the male suspect's ancestral home in Baguio City.
The suspect, a police lieutenant colonel, admitted to committing the crime and executed an affidavit. Investigation into the incident is still ongoing, but the crime of passion is an angle the police are probing.
The report stated the suspect found the victim and his wife — also an executive master sergeant — in a very intimate situation before shooting the victim.
The police officer then used a hacksaw to dismember the victim, before transporting the victim's body to Baguio City where the latter was buried.
The suspect later revealed the exact location of the buried body.
Police said that before the discovery of the victim's body, the victim was reported missing. The SPD stated that reports and social media posts claimed the victim was missing, prompting the victim's child to visit Camp Bagong Diwa, the last known location the victim had been seen.
Police are treating the suspect's wife as a suspect as well, and may face charges of conspiracy as the crime was committed in her presence. Murder charges are being mulled to be filed against the couple who are now placed in police custody.
The hacksaw used by the police official in chopping up the victim is now being searched, while the pickup used in transporting the victim is currently in police custody.
The police are still awaiting the forensic report which would reveal how many gunshots the victim had.
