An early morning fire broke out inside the second-floor office of Manila Vice Mayor Chi Atienza’s office at Manila City Hall in Ermita on Wednesday.

Fire investigators reported the blaze started around 5:35 a.m., reached the first alarm at 5:57 a.m., and was brought under control by 6:15 a.m. Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel declared the fire fully extinguished at 6:21 a.m.

No injuries were reported, as the incident occurred before regular office hours.

Preliminary investigations by the BFP indicate the fire originated in the office pantry, likely caused by an electrical spark from a plugged-in refrigerator.

Atienza stressed that no personnel were at fault for the incident, noting that refrigerators naturally remain connected to power outlets continuously. She added that her office is waiting for the final arson investigation report from the BFP.

Despite the damage to the second-floor premises, Atienza assured the public that operations and public services would continue uninterrupted.

Staff members set up temporary desks outside the office while fire officials and cleanup crews cleared the affected area.
