In a significant recognition of the late former Senator Santanina Rasul’s contributions to Philippine society, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go co-sponsored a measure honoring her legacy.
Inserted into the records during the Senate session on Tuesday, Go’s speech celebrated Rasul as a trailblazing figure in the nation’s history and a champion for marginalized communities.
“Senator Rasul was a remarkable figure in our nation’s history, being the first Muslim woman elected to the Philippine Senate. Her groundbreaking contributions to legislation and her unwavering commitment to the promotion of peace, education, and the empowerment of women and marginalized communities have left an indelible mark on our society,” Go stated.
Senator Rasul’s career is marked by her efforts to uplift women, children and underserved communities, which Go highlighted extensively.
“She held several positions in government, representing Muslims and cultural minorities throughout her public service career. In 1966, she founded the Magbassa Kita Foundation Inc., an organization dedicated to promoting not only literacy but also peace, development and women empowerment.”
The foundation Senator Rasul created has been instrumental in advancing literacy and fostering peace in the Philippines, particularly among marginalized groups.
Go underscored her contributions, saying, “She served as a commissioner representing Muslim and other ethnic minorities and was also a member of the board at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports in 1986.”
As a dedicated advocate for education, Senator Rasul viewed it as a critical tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and fostering sustainable development.
Meanwhile, the basketball court at Kalinga State University was alive with echoes of dribbles and cheers as students from across the province competed in the 2024 KAHEI Sports Festival, held from 25 to 27 November.
With the theme “KAHEI: Aspire to Greatness, Persevere in Adversity, Triumph Together,” the event showcased more than athleticism — it celebrated resilience and collaboration among students from Kalinga’s higher education institutions.
Amid the spirited competition, one prominent figure’s support stood out: Senator Christopher “Bong” Go. As the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Sports and Youth, Go’s advocacy for youth and grassroots sports development was a cornerstone of the event’s success.
Through his role, Go advocated for vital assistance in partnership with the Philippine Sports Commission, ensuring the festival had the resources it needed to thrive.
