The National Housing Authority recently awarded new houses to 550 families who were victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda in the province of Antique.

Senator Maria Imelda Josefa Remedios "Imee" Romualdez Marcos and NHA Region VI Manager Engr. Hermes Jude G. Juntilo, on behalf of General Manager Joeben Tai, led the awarding ceremony held at Villa Lugta Nuevo, Brgy. Lugta, Laua-an, Antique, with COOP NATCCO Partylist Rep. Felimon Espares, Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao, Vice Gov. Edgar Denosta, Mayor Aser J. Baladjay, and Vice Mayor Francisco Baladjay.

One of NHA's project sites under the Yolanda Permanent Housing Project is Villa Lugta Nuevo consists of 770 units, each having a floor area of 28.4 sq.m. The remaining 220 units are also scheduled to be awarded to other beneficiaries in the coming year.

Meanwhile, during the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of Super Typhoon Yolanda on 8 November 2023, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos, Jr., and GM Tai led the awarding of housing units to 4,788 typhoon-victim families in Tacloban City.

"Ang ating Housing Secretary, nandito rin si Joeben Tai ng NHA, lahat sila ay tumutulong para pagandahin [ang pabahay dito sa Tacloban]. Bumalik kami at sinigurado namin na ang mga pasilidad na ginagawa ay angkop para sa mga pamilyang nawalan ng tirahan. Kaya tuloy pa rin ang recovery, rehabilitation, rebuilding," the President said during the occasion.

Moreover, GM Tai ensures that the immediate turnover of the NHA YPHP housing backlogs will be delivered.

Super Typhoon Yolanda remains one of the strongest typhoons to hit the Philippines. It made landfall in 2013 and claimed the lives of more than 6,000 people and left approximately half a million Filipinos homeless.
