Manila Zoo’s resident elephant Mali dies


The 50-year-old elephant named Vishwa Ma'ali, popularly known as "Mali" in Manila Zoo has passed away, Mayor Honey Lacuna announced on Tuesday, 28 November.
The female elephant was born in 1974 in Sri Lanka. Mali arrived in Manila three years later as a gift from the said country.
"Ang Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Maynila ay malungkot na ibinabahagi ang pagkamatay ng ating minamahal na si Vishwa Ma'ali, mas kilalang Maali, ngayong araw, ika-28 ng Nobyembre," Lacuna said.
"Kasalukuyang ginaganap ang necropsy upang malaman ang tunay na kadahilanan ng kanyang pagkamatay," she continued.
