Senator Bong Go, in coordination with the Office of Mayor John Dalipe and officials of Barangay Baliwasan, assisted fire victims at Baliwasan Commercial Complex in Zamboanga City on Tuesday, 7 November.

Go's team provided snacks, grocery packs, water containers, masks, and vitamins to 87 families. There were also select recipients of a bicycle, mobile phone, pairs of shoes, and balls for basketball and volleyball.

In his video message, Go renewed his call to local government units to intensify and promote fire safety and preparedness in their respective communities.

"Nakakalungkot man po na masunugan dahil para po kayong bumalik sa simula pero mas importante po ang buhay ng bawat isa. Ang gamit po ay nabibili, pero ang pera na kikitain natin ay hindi po nabibili ang buhay. Kaya pag-ingatan natin ang buhay na binigay sa atin ng Panginoon," said Go.

Go primarily authored and co-sponsored Republic Act 11589 or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act. This law was enacted with the primary aim of reducing the occurrence and mitigating the impact of fire-related incidents.

RA 11589, which former president Rodrigo Duterte signed, mandated the BFP to embark on a modernization program. The program includes the acquisition of state-of-the-art firefighting equipment, the expansion of the workforce, and the implementation of specialized training programs for firefighters.

In collaboration with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the LGUs, the BFP is tasked with conducting regular fire prevention campaigns and informational outreach programs, especially in remote and underserved areas.

Go, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography encouraged those with health issues to visit any of the three Malasakit Centers located at the Zamboanga City Medical Center, Mindanao Central Sanitarium, and Labuan General Hospital, should they need medical assistance from the government.

Go also said the Department of Health has identified three areas in the city for the establishment of Super Health Centers. Through the collective efforts of fellow lawmakers, sufficient funds have been allocated for 307 Super Health Centers in 2022 and 322 Super Health Centers in 2023. DOH, as the lead implementing agency, identifies strategic areas where these centers will be built.

Previously, Go, vice chairperson of the Senate Committee on Finance, supported the construction of a multipurpose building that will be turned into a sub-national laboratory capacity building for serology and molecular testing, and the construction of a children's park, and a two-story building inside Camp Navarro General Hospital.

"Palagi po kayong magdasal at magtiwala lang po kayo sa gobyerno. Palagi po tayong magtulungan at magmalasakit mga kababayan ko at sigurado po ako na malalagpasan natin ang kahit na anumang hamon," concluded Go.
