President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. honored the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary with the recognition Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation for its efforts and various accomplishments.
In his letter to Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, President Marcos said the PCGA displayed "exceptionally meritorious conduct and extraordinary accomplishments in support of the conduct of maritime security operations, humanitarian assistance activities, and disaster relief and recovery efforts."
The citation letter was dated 11 October 2023.
Bautista lauded the PCGA for its efforts in assisting its regular personnel and vowed to provide necessary assistance and resources to help them discharge their functions.
"The entire DOTr is proud of this citation of PCGA and no less than President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recognized your tireless efforts and service to the country. I would like to assure the PCGA of the agency's assistance so you can effectively perform your functions," the transport chief said.
The PCGA is the uniformed-civilian volunteer arm of the PCG, tasked under Republic Act 9993 or the "Coast Guard Law of 2009" to assist the PCG in the conduct of maritime safety, search and rescue, marine environment protection, and maritime community relations. The PCGA has over 20,000 members nationwide.
