The provincial government of Eastern Samar has mounted a one-day golf tournament to raise more funds for a program that seeks to ensure at least one professional for every family in the province.

Eastern Samar Governor Ben Evardone and the Metro Manila-based Waray-Waray Golfers Club Inc. hosted the fundraising golf cup on Friday at the North Course of Valley Golf and Country Club, Antipolo Rizal.

Rocajane Salac, provincial information officer, said a total of 114 players, who share the aim of sending more students to school, signed up for the fundraising tournament.

The golf tournament aims to raise funds for the Isang Propesyonal Isang Pamilya Program, a brainchild of Evardone that ensures that each family in the province will have a professional that will help improve their economic condition and uplift them out of poverty.

Salac said the program is currently sending 539 scholars this school year where each scholar receives a monthly stipend of P3,000. Upon graduation, the program continues to provide financial support to those who will take licensure examinations during their review until they get hired.

She added that the program gets an annual funding of P15 million from the provincial government and maintains a trust fund out of donations from institutional partners such as San Miguel Corporation and Metrobank.
