ZAMBOANGA CITY — Authorities here disclosed on Thursday that two individuals believed to be members of the Daulah Islamiyah-Maute Group surrendered and turned over their respective firearms to the military in Munai, Lanao del Norte.

Lanao del Norte Provincial Police Director P/Col. Sandy Vales narrated that police facilitated the surrender of the two former DI-MG gunmen to the 43rd Mechanized Infantry (Kasangga) Company in Barangay North Cadulawan in Munai in Lanao del Norte on Tuesday.

The DI-MG members were identified as Mactan Mangayaw, alias Abu Qital, a resident of Barangay Lininding and Macaalin Mangolambo, alias Abu Binor and Amir, a resident of Barangay Lindungan both located in Munai.

They also turned over their firearms — two M4 5.56mm and an armalite rifle with scope.

Witnessing the surrender of Mangayaw and Mangolambo were Munai Mayor Racma Andamama, 2nd Mechanized Infantry (Magbalantay) Brigade deputy commander Col. Rolando Orengo, and some Munai Local Government Unit officials.

Mangayaw, Mangolambo and their surrendered firearms are now in the custody of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade.

Vales said that the surrender of Mangayaw and Mangolambo will help in maintaining the lasting peace in Lanao del Norte as he encouraged the community to help the police and military identify other members of this DI-MG and urged them to peacefully surrender to authorities and live a normal life again with their family in the community where they belong.
