The Philippine national squash team will fly to Hong Kong on Monday for the 22nd Asian Squash Individual Championships 2023 from 6 to 10 June.
Philippine Squash Association president Robert Bachmann said five netters will be fielded as part of their buildup for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China from 23 September to 8 October.
Robert Garcia, Reymark Begornia, David Peliño and Jonathan Reyes will play in the men's division while Jemyca Aribado will see action in the women's division.
Bachmann wants to see progress from his wards in the tournament.
"In the Asian Individual, if we can just improve to No. 6 or No. 5, then it's an improvement already," Bachmann said in an interview with Daily Tribune.
The 2019 edition of the tournament in Kuala Lumpur saw the Philippines make it as far as the third round after Garcia lost to hometown bet Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan, 11-13, 8-11, 13-15.
