Lawyer Ferdinand Topacio on Thursday lambasted the Makabayan lawmakers in the House of Representatives for alleged grandstanding with their resolution to have Pastor Apollo Quiboloy investigated for sex trafficking, among other charges.
Topacio said the lawmakers' intention was simply to humiliate his client, the head of the church Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name.
"I guess they forgot that Congress is not an investigative body. It is not a prosecutor's office and not a court. It cannot be a substitution for what one feels is a lack of action on the part of the executive," Topacio said.
Topacio contended that any charges against Quiboloy should be filed and heard in court and his right to the preseumption of innocence respected.
Quiboloy was one of 40 individuals from nine nations sanctioned by the United States Treasury over claimed human rights abuses or corruption.
