The Philippines and Japan have exchanged diplomatic notes to bring into force their Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA), a defense logistics pact that will take effect on 22 August 2026.

The agreement establishes the framework for the reciprocal provision of supplies and services between the Japan Self-Defense Forces and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, including procedures for settling transactions during joint activities.

Once in effect, the ACSA is expected to facilitate the faster and more efficient exchange of logistical support between the two militaries, strengthening interoperability and defense cooperation.

The agreement was signed on 15 January 2026 in Manila by then-Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu and Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro.

Japan said the pact will promote closer cooperation between the two armed forces while supporting regional peace, security, and stability.
