High-ranking officials of the Department of Education are now being deployed at the field to help address educational issues at the regional level, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Z. Duterte said yesterday.
In an interview with SMNI, Duterte said she will visit DepEd regional offices in Davao and other parts of Mindanao to talk with the regional directors and other education local officials.
"We are just waiting to see President Marcos' schedule in December before we move to Davao so that we can do our rounds in Mindanao because we also need to talk to our regional offices," she.
She added: "It is also necessary to seek out their problems because I noticed there is a quite disconnect between the central office and our field operations. Something that we did for the Department of Education is that we brought down our executive committee (undersecretaries and assistant secretaries) to the regions."
Duterte said they did the first experiment in Region 8 Eastern Visayas.
"We started with Region 8 and then I told them to talk with the regional director and schools division superintendents, so they can hear firsthand what the problem is in the field," she said.
Duterte said during her first three months in office, she went to schools and at the same time attended LGU events as vice president.
"I noticed that they really have a lot of problems there — sometimes they don't understand each other. I told our undersecretaries and assistant secretaries to talk to the regional offices," she said.
