LIVE updates - COC filing, 2025 elections Day 7

Today marks the seventh day for aspiring candidates in the 2025 national and local elections (#Halalan2025) to file their certificates of candidacy (COCs) with the Commission on Elections (Comelec), and for party-lists to submit their Certificates of Nomination and Certificate of Acceptance of Nomination (CONA).

For Senate candidates and party-lists, papers must be filed at the Comelec office in Manila Hotel, while local bets must head to their respective local Comelec offices to file.

The period for COC filing is between 1-8 October, 2024. Candidates can file their papers on the weekend.

1:40 PM - Former senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla files his certificate of candidacy under Lakas-CMD.

Abra latest

BAGUIO CITY – La Paz Mayor and National President of the League of Mayors of the Philippines (LMP) Joseph Sto Niño “JB” Bernos has announced his bid for a return to Congress, filing his certificate of candidacy for Abra Representative in the 2025 National and Local Elections. Bernos previously held the position from 2016 to 2022 and is running under the Lakas Christian and Muslim Democrats (Lakas CMD).

Teaming up with former Abra Governor Eustaquio Bersamin, Bernos aims to reclaim his congressional seat, while Bersamin, representing the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), is running for governor. Bersamin’s niece, Anne Bersamin, also from PFP, is running for vice governor.

Update from Tarlac

Vic Angeles, husband of Mayor Cristy Angeles, filed his COC for mayor, while his daughter KT Angeles filed for vice mayor at the local Comelec office on Monday. The father-daughter duo was accompanied by the incumbent mayor during the filing. Meanwhile, Mayor Cristy Angeles is seeking a congressional seat in the Second District of Tarlac. | Via Jonas Reyes

Bam's back

12:43 PM - Former senator Bam Aquino is hoping for a Senate return as he files his certificate of candidacy on Monday.

"Kailangan po ng mga na seryosong maglilingkod sa ating bayan. Kung papalarin po, yan po ulit ang gagawin natin, magtatrabaho po para sa ating taumbayan."

Aquino, who abandoned his Senate bid in 2022 to run former vice president Leni Robredo's presidential campaign, failed to get re-elected in the 2019 elections.

Two lesser-known bets

12:20 AM - Clad in sparkling clothes, Nur-Ana Sahidulla arrives at the Manila Hotel Tent City to file her certificate of candidacy for senator.

In 2022, she ran for senator, but was unsuccessful, finishing in the 52nd spot with 572,645 votes.

Sahidulla was a representative of Sulu Province's Second Congressional District from 2010 to 2013.

Not in favor of Sulu separation from the Bangsamoro region, Sahidulla says she would seek to file a bill which would bring it back to BARMM, "Yun ang una sa lahat."

Also running for senator is former Defense secretary Norberto Gonzales. His platform includes addressing food insecurity and conflict in the West Philippine Sea.

Pampanga filers

11:45 AM - Former Pampanga Board Member Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab has officially filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for the mayoralty seat of San Fernando on Monday at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office.

Cayabyab was joined by Vice Mayor BJ “Tiger” Lagman, who also filed his COC for re-election. The two, running under the "My Love San Fernando" slate, attended a mass before submitting their candidacies.

Their team includes candidates Kristel “Ato” Agustin, Doc Benjie Angeles, Tin “Kings” Chua, Perico Dizon Quiwa, Rosemary “Nanay Kap” Calimlim, Ricky Olalia Hizon, Tina David-Lagman, Doc Ayzel Macalino, Rosalie “Alvin” Mendoza, and Angel “Puti” Wijangco. | Via Jonas Reyes

Senadora Guy?

11:32 AM - Actress and film producer Nora Villamayor, known professionally as Nora Aunor, files certificate of acceptance and nomination for People's Champ Party-list group.

A principled decision

11:11 AM - Human rights lawyer Chel Diokno files his certification of nomination and acceptance of Akbayan Party-list Group. He wills serve as the group's first nominee.

"Nais po namin gawin sa Kongreso ang ginagawa ni Sen. Risa [Hontiveros] sa Kongreso... Kailangan ng bayan ng mga mababatas na lalaban para sa interes ng mga ordinaryong Pilipino."

Heal PH files CONA

10:45 AM - Led by former Health Undersecretary Enrique Tayag, Heal PH Party-list group files its certificate of nomination of acceptance.

Tayag, who recently retired after over 35 years of public service, is the group's second nominee.

10:18 AM - Now-resigned DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos files his certificate of candidacy for senator under the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.

9:53 AM - Former Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) chairman Greco Belgica has filed his CONA for the Bisaya Gyud Partylist.

Chavit says win or lose, he will continue with his advocacy of e-modernizing public utility vehicles, such as jeeps and tricycles.

Gringo has unfinished business

8:30 AM - Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan has filed his COC for a Senate seat on Monday, 7 October, the penultimate day of filing. He is the first filer of the day.

In case you missed it, Retired seafarer Valeriano Gingco, 67, of Barangay Baring, Carmen, Cebu, filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for Governor on 4 October, signaling his challenge against the incumbent, Gwendolyn Garcia.
