United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres says there are encouraging signs for Sustainable Development Goal 13.

Climate policies have helped lower projected global warming compared with estimates made a decade ago, while stronger disaster preparedness and early-warning systems are saving lives, according to Guterres.

Climate finance mobilized by developed countries for developing countries also surpassed $100 billion annually for the third consecutive year in 2024.

However, current national climate commitments are still insufficient to limit warming to 1.5°C.

As countries gather for COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye, accelerating the transition to clean energy, scaling up climate finance and strengthening adaptation will be essential to building a more resilient, sustainable future for all, according to Guterres.
