Vice President Sara Duterte on Saturday, 31 October, visited the Holy Cross Memorial Gardens in Tacloban City, where several bodies of victims of the destructive super typhoon "Yolanda" in 2013 were laid to rest.

“We offered flowers and lit candles, while praying for the eternal peace of their souls,” Duterte said in a Facebook post.

The Vice President also had their graves blessed, led by Fr. Raymund. Joining her in visiting the cemetery were colleagues from the Office of the Vice President–Eastern Visayas Satellite Office (OVP–EVSO) and some residents in Tacloban City.

“As we commemorate All Souls’ Day, let us include in our prayers our fellow countrymen who were victims of calamities and disasters, as well as the families they left behind. Let us continue to stay strong amid the trials in our lives,” Duterte said.

On 30 October, Duterte also visited the gravesites of those who died during the Roxas Night Market bombing in Davao City last 2016, which killed more than 10 individuals.

May their souls rest

“I visited the memorial of our fellow countrymen who perished in the Roxas Night Market bombing in 2016. In this holy commemoration, we offered prayers for their souls. May they find eternal peace in the presence of our loving Almighty,” she said in a separate Facebook post.

In line with the upcoming commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the 1991 flash flood in Ormoc City, Leyte, Duterte also visited the Ormoc City Public Cemetery Mass Grave Memorial on Sunday, 1 November, where more than 4,000 individuals were killed during the tragedy.
