PNP deploys over 141,000 personnel for Undas security
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed more than 141,000 personnel and force multipliers nationwide to secure cemeteries, transportation hubs and residential areas as millions of Filipinos travel for All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered police units to establish assistance desks, tighten security inspections at cemetery entrances and conduct regular patrols to prevent crimes and respond to emergencies during Undas.
The nationwide deployment includes 73,034 police personnel, 16,560 personnel from other government agencies and 51,578 force multipliers.
Security operations will cover 5,311 cemeteries and columbaria, as well as major roads, transportation terminals, places of worship and tourist destinations.
Nartatez said assistance desks must be equipped to handle emergencies involving missing children, medical concerns and other incidents, particularly those affecting vulnerable individuals.
“We will ensure that our personnel remain visible, approachable, and ready to respond to every request for assistance, especially from children, senior citizens, and other vulnerable individuals. Our presence must provide genuine reassurance to the public, and every police officer must serve with professionalism, compassion, and a strong sense of responsibility,” Nartatez said.
Police were also instructed to strengthen security screening and monitor prohibited activities, including drinking sessions and karaoke use inside cemeteries.
Meanwhile, Nartatez ordered intensified neighborhood patrols to protect homes left unattended by families traveling during the holiday break.
“Before leaving home, make sure all doors and windows are secured, electrical appliances are safely switched off, and valuables are kept out of sight. I have directed our police units to intensify neighborhood patrols and coordinate with barangay officials to deter burglars and protect homes left unattended during Undas,” he said.
The PNP also warned cemetery visitors against displaying expensive jewelry, carrying large amounts of cash and leaving belongings unattended in crowded areas.
Authorities expect heavy traffic beginning Friday, 30 October, as travelers head to their home provinces.
Last year, approximately 14 million cemetery visitors were recorded nationwide, underscoring the scale of the annual observance.
All PNP offices and units have been placed under full alert status from 12:01 a.m. on 30 October until 12:01 a.m. on 3 November.
Nartatez urged the public to cooperate with authorities and immediately report suspicious activities to ensure a peaceful and orderly Undas observance.
