Police, transport agencies activate ‘Undas’ security operations

Philippine security, transportation and immigration agencies have activated nationwide public safety operations to manage millions of travelers and cemetery visitors expected during the upcoming Undas holiday period.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. announced Friday that approximately 72,500 police officers will be deployed across the country to maintain order at transportation hubs, major thoroughfares, cemeteries, columbaria and tourist destinations.
The PNP deployment will be reinforced by 16,892 personnel from partner agencies — including the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Philippine Coast Guard — alongside 51,467 community force multipliers, bringing the total security force to about 141,000 personnel nationwide.
Police officers will cover 5,311 cemeteries and memorial parks, setting up 4,980 police assistance desks to assist visitors, manage crowd movement, and handle emergency reports.
“This Undas, what is important is that everyone knows there is a police officer nearby if they need help,” Nartatez said.
“We are not just putting personnel on the ground; we are making sure they are where they are needed most — ready to assist, respond, and keep things orderly. We want the public to feel that the PNP is there to help,” he added.
Nartatez urged visitors to comply with cemetery regulations by refraining from bringing weapons, illegal drugs, alcohol and flammable materials, while advising travelers to secure their homes and inspect their vehicles prior to long road trips.
“We have put the personnel and resources in place, but we also need the public to do their part,” Nartatez said. “A safe Undas is a shared responsibility. If we stay alert, follow the rules, and speak up when something needs attention, we can act faster and help ensure that families can remember their loved ones with peace of mind.”
