Geely Auto Group has introduced a new electric vehicle charging system that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to control battery temperature and manage power delivery, with its latest charging station capable of producing up to 2,250 kilowatts.
The technology, called Geely Smart Charging, was unveiled globally on 23 September 2026. It combines high-speed charging with battery management systems that Geely claims can extend battery life despite repeated fast-charging sessions.
The system uses Xingrui PowerMind, an AI energy model developed with technology company StepFun. It connects the vehicle and battery with the charging station, power grid and other energy systems to regulate electricity flow.
One of its main features is the ability to predict battery temperature up to 30 seconds ahead. This allows the system to adjust charging power before the battery becomes too hot.
Geely claims the technology can keep average battery temperature below 55 degrees Celsius during charging, with peak temperatures limited to less than 65 degrees Celsius.
A five-point liquid-cooling system also helps control heat throughout the charging process. It covers the charging station’s energy-storage battery and charger, as well as the cable, charging port and vehicle battery.
Temperature control is particularly important in the Philippines, where high ambient temperatures can make battery cooling more demanding.
Geely has also developed a technology that addresses battery wear caused by repeated fast charging.
Its Lithium-ion Pulse Restoration Technology uses small electrical pulses to help reactivate lithium ions that accumulate at the battery’s negative electrode.
Together with AI-based charging management, Geely claims this can improve battery cycle life by up to 20 percent.
The system can adjust charging current and cooling intensity according to the battery’s condition. Geely has also developed a lower-rate charging method for home use to help reduce battery deterioration over time.
Meanwhile, the company’s fifth-generation Smart Charging Station delivers peak charging power of up to 2,250 kW.
Its Shendun Golden Battery supports charging rates of up to 12C, which theoretically allows a complete charge in approximately five minutes.
Geely reported that batteries used in the Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001 achieved a charge from 10 to 70 percent in four minutes and 30 seconds during testing. Charging from 10 to 97 percent took eight minutes and 40 seconds.
The automaker also introduced its Next-Generation Ultra Short Blade Battery, which uses a laser-welding process developed by Geely. The company claims this reduces heat generation during charging by 10 percent while supporting charging rates of up to 6C.
In the Philippines, Geely currently offers the fully electric EX2 and EX5, alongside the EX5 EM-i equipped with its Super Hybrid technology.
However, the new charging system is part of Geely’s global technology development program. Current Philippine-market vehicles do not support the full 2,250 kW charging capability.
Geely has yet to announce when the new technology will become available locally or which future models will support it.
The development also addresses a concern among EV owners. Faster charging may reduce time spent at charging stations, but battery temperature and long-term durability remain important considerations, particularly for motorists who frequently use DC fast chargers.
