More than 380 students aged 16 and older, along with some faculty members, took part in a road safety education program conducted by Honda Foundation Inc. (HFI) across 11 public schools in Santa Rosa City, Laguna.

The initiative, called Students on Safety (SoS), was organized in partnership with the Department of Education Schools Division Office of Santa Rosa City, the local government and participating schools.

Certified instructors from the Honda Safety Driving Center (HSDC) conducted the sessions, which covered responsible road use and safe travel habits. The program also included interactive activities and practical exercises to help students understand the lessons beyond classroom discussions.

Through the sessions, Honda sought to encourage young Filipinos to develop safer habits before they become regular drivers or riders. The lessons also emphasized the responsibility of every road user to help prevent accidents.

Faculty members joined some of the activities, which gave schools an opportunity to reinforce road safety awareness among their students.

The SoS program is part of Honda’s wider efforts to reduce fatalities from road crashes involving its motorcycles and automobiles. The company has also set a global target of achieving zero traffic collision fatalities by 2050.

HFI said it hopes students will apply what they learned whenever they travel and make responsible decisions that can help protect themselves and others on the road.

The foundation serves as the corporate social responsibility arm of the Honda Group of Companies in the Philippines. Its member companies include Honda Philippines Inc., Honda Cars Philippines Inc., Honda Trading Philippines Ecozone Corporation and Honda Logistics Philippines Inc.

The Santa Rosa initiative is among Honda’s school-based road safety activities that seek to introduce responsible road behavior to young Filipinos before they begin driving.
