Geely’s Monjaro EM-i plug-in hybrid SUV has earned a Guinness World Records title after completing a 188.6-kilometer crossing of Egypt’s Black and White Deserts in the Sahara, ahead of its Philippine introduction.
The SUV established the fastest crossing of the two deserts by a plug-in hybrid-powered production SUV in September, according to Geely Motor Philippines.
The continuous drive took the vehicle from the Black Desert to the White Desert under extreme heat and difficult terrain.
Geely also subjected the Monjaro EM-i to five capability challenges covering handling and stability, repeated steep-slope climbs, cross-axle recovery, ride comfort on rough terrain and acceleration at a low battery state of charge.
The Monjaro EM-i uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with an electric drive system that delivers up to 250 kilowatts of combined power and 667 Newton-meters of torque.
Its intelligent electric all-wheel-drive system automatically adjusts torque distribution according to road conditions. The SUV also features Continuous Damping Control suspension and an intelligent power-management system.
Filipino automotive journalists will get an early opportunity to evaluate the D-segment SUV during a Geely media drive in Northern Luzon this October.
The event will serve as a preview ahead of the model’s official Philippine launch.
Geely has yet to announce local pricing or a launch date.
