The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has turned over 38 Honda PCX motorcycles to the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO-1) to strengthen police mobility and improve emergency response across the Ilocos Region.

PRO-1 chief PBGen Crisaleo Tolentino welcomed the assistance, saying the additional motorcycles would help police personnel respond more quickly to incidents and improve public safety.

Tolentino thanked DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla and the Philippine National Police leadership for providing the equipment, which he said would support efforts to make communities safer places to live, work and do business.

La Union Governor Mario Ortega, meanwhile, underscored the importance of cooperation between civilian authorities and uniformed personnel in maintaining peace and order.

Ortega said the provincial government remained committed to supporting the police through equipment, training and other resources needed to carry out their duties.

He also pointed to the importance of discipline among uniformed personnel and stronger coordination between local governments and law enforcement agencies, saying peace and order are essential to development.

Speaking at the event, Remulla highlighted the government's push to strengthen emergency response through the unified 911 system, which allows the public to contact responders through a single emergency number.

He said the 911 call center in the Ilocos Region accommodates callers in Ilocano, emphasizing the importance of communicating with people in a language they are comfortable using during emergencies.

Remulla also called for unity among government agencies, local governments and communities to ensure that emergency calls receive appropriate and timely responses.

The turnover forms part of efforts to improve the operational capacity of police units in Region 1, where personnel are expected to use the additional motorcycles to support patrols and respond to incidents in their areas of responsibility.
