Davao City — Carbon monoxide exposure is among the primary suspected causes in the deaths of three maintenance workers at a local luxury hotel complex, fire officials announced Wednesday.
Davao City Fire District spokesperson Fire Senior Insp. Frances Marie Sendrijas said during a press briefing that emergency responders detected elevated levels of carbon monoxide inside an enclosed utility space at the Dusit Thani Residence Davao in the Lanang district.
The fire bureau received a report of an active gas leak at 2:36 a.m. on Monday. Responders arrived at the hotel property at 3:35 a.m. and utilized specialized air monitoring devices and breathing apparatus to retrieve the unconscious workers from a lifting station facility.
