Police arrested a 49-year-old farmer allegedly linked to the Rubiaco Criminal Group and wanted for attempted murder in Barangay San Juan, Buguey, Cagayan on September 28.

The suspect, identified only as alias “Tunal,” was arrested at around 10:30 a.m. by joint police personnel serving a warrant of arrest issued on July 15, 2009.

Police said the suspect had been wanted for years in connection with the attempted murder case and was allegedly among four individuals charged in the case, which authorities described as politically related.

According to the police report, the suspect’s father and another father-and-son pair had previously been charged in the same case, leaving Tunal as the last of the four accused to be arrested.

Following his arrest, Tunal was brought to the Buguey Police Station for documentation before being turned over to the court that issued the warrant for proper disposition.

Police Regional Office 2 Director Brig. Gen. Mariano C. Rodriguez commended the personnel involved in the operation, citing their coordination and swift action in locating and arresting the long-wanted suspect.

Rodriguez said police would continue intensified manhunt operations against wanted persons to ensure that those facing criminal charges are brought before the courts and that victims are given an opportunity to seek justice.
