Thirteen Filipino seafarers who were part of the crew of M/V Bam Arion from Rotterdam, Netherlands, have safely returned to the Philippines, arriving in the country Saturday, 5 September, aboard Qatar Airways Flight QR928 at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City.

The vessel they were on has been detained in Rotterdam since 17 May, in connection with a legal case against their employer.

During the welfare visit conducted by the Department of Migrant Workers' (DMW) overseas welfare office on 17 June, the seafarers reported unpaid wages since May and a shortage of food supplies.

In response, Migrant Workers Office Berlin extended financial assistance, while the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Berlin distributed food packages to the seafarers while they awaited the replenishment of supplies from their principal agency and employer.

Upon their arrival in the country, the seafarers were immediately met and assisted by OWWA, in cooperation with the DMW and the MIAA medical team, to ensure smooth arrival processing and to provide the necessary airport and welfare assistance, such as food, financial aid, transportation assistance, and temporary accommodation if needed.

Alagang OWWA does not end at the airport, as the OWWA Regional Welfare Offices continue to support our Filipino seafarers upon their return to their communities and as they make a fresh start with their families.
