For decades, Araneta City has been more than a destination in Metro Manila. It has been a place where people shop, dine, work, watch games, catch a concert, commute and make memories.

At the heart of that evolution is Jorge L. Araneta, chairman and CEO of the Araneta Group, who was recently recognized for his lasting influence on Philippine real estate and urban life.

Araneta received the prestigious Life Achievement Award at the 14th PropertyGuru Philippines Property Awards, held at Shangri-La The Fort on August 20.

Considered one of the highest individual honors in Asian real estate, the award recognizes Araneta’s “extraordinary contributions and lifelong dedication to the Philippine real estate industry through his visionary leadership of Araneta Group and the continued evolution of Araneta City as one of the country’s most iconic and transformative urban developments.”

Rowell Recinto, senior management consultant of Araneta City, accepted the award on Araneta’s behalf. Reflecting on his contribution to the city and the industry, he said, “Mr. Araneta pioneered the integration of entertainment and retail and incorporated mass transit (even before MRT and LRT) into a mixed-use estate -- two concepts that are now planning musts in all developments. Moreover, he had the foresight to introduce land uses in Cubao that would have been unthinkable before that time but now constitutes part of the identity of Araneta City.”

Araneta is one of the Philippines’ foremost business leaders and the current head of one of the country’s most enduring and diversified family-owned enterprises, the Araneta Group. Under his leadership, Araneta City evolved into one of the country’s earliest modern commercial and mixed-use developments, bringing together retail, entertainment, hospitality, offices, transportation and residential spaces.

That mix helped turn the district into more than a business center. Over the years, Araneta City has become part of the everyday rhythm of Metro Manila—a familiar backdrop for generations of city dwellers and a destination that continues to reinvent itself alongside the people who live, work, and spend time there.

“Today, his pioneering mindset continues to drive innovation as Araneta City continues to transform itself to adapt to address future needs,” Recinto added.

The PropertyGuru Philippines Life Achievement Award comes just days after Araneta received the 2026 Most Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of the Philippines Alumni Association, adding to a long list of recognitions for his contributions to business and the community.

His previous honors include the Most Distinguished Alumnus Award from the UP College of Business Administration in 2005, the Philippine Retailers Association’s “Pioneer of Retail Entertainment” recognition in 2018, and the Upsilon Noble and Outstanding Award in 2020.
