  • The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has restored electricity to nearly all customers who experienced service interruptions caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat.

Following round-the-clock restoration efforts by field crews, the number of affected customers dropped to approximately 2,800, representing less than 1 percent of Meralco’s total customer base.

More than 1,000 of the remaining outages are located in flooded areas, with the majority concentrated in parts of Metro Manila, Cavite and Bulacan.

“Our crews and personnel continue to work tirelessly to complete power restoration to the remaining customers,” said Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco vice president and head of corporate communications. “We thank our customers for their patience and their help in reporting outages in their areas, which allowed us to expedite restoration efforts.”

In response to the severe weather, Meralco’s corporate social responsibility arm, One Meralco Foundation, prepared relief packs for distribution to families affected by heavy rains and flooding. Foundation members and employee volunteers plan to deliver emergency assistance to impacted communities in the coming days.

Meralco advised customers to report power outages and electricity-related concerns through its official social media pages on Facebook and X, via text message at 0920-9716211 or 0917-5516211, or by calling the hotline at 16211.
