The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) assured customers that its crews are ready to respond to possible power outages caused by heavy rains from the southwest monsoon or habagat.
Meralco vice president and head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga said the company is continuously monitoring weather conditions and has prepared measures to address electricity service concerns in affected areas.
Meralco also reminded billboard owners and operators to temporarily roll up their billboards to prevent them from being toppled by strong winds.
The power distributor advised customers in flood-prone areas to stay away from downed or submerged electrical facilities, turn off their main power switch or circuit breaker, and unplug appliances. Residents should also ensure that electrical wires and equipment are completely dry and have flood-damaged systems inspected by a licensed electrician before restoring power.
Zaldarriaga also urged the public to keep communication channels open and charge mobile phones, laptops, radios and other devices in case of power interruptions.
Customers may report electricity service concerns through Meralco’s official social media pages, by texting 0920-9716211 or 0917-5516211, or by calling the Meralco Hotline at 16211.
