Acknowledging the hardships faced by newsrooms and reporters, the vice mayor called on members of the press to stay committed to their core mission and emphasized the power of incremental progress.
“In Manila, strong faith and small steps lead to success,” Atienza said, urging media workers to remain steadfast.
She also assured the NPC and its members that the Manila city government supports their work, adding that she deeply values the role of an independent press.
“I want you all to know, you have a friend and a daughter in me,” Atienza told the audience. “I want you to also know that I will always be here for you as well.”
Highlighting the need for unity within the media community, Atienza encouraged journalists to support one another as they navigate digital transitions and changing operational demands.
Her remarks came during a gather of media practitioners highlighting the defense of press freedom and the role of news organizations in informing the public.
