  • ILOILO CITY — Punong Barangay Rene Taño and eight council members of Barangay Linobayan here have submitted their resignations following a persistent dispute over a local poultry farm accused of generating foul odors and severe fly infestations.

Taño confirmed he tendered his resignation letter to Tigbauan Mayor Virgilio “Nene” Teruel on 26 August 2026, alongside the eight barangay kagawads.

The collective departure follows mounting frustration from community members over the alleged nuisance caused by GT Poultry Farm.

The village leader explained that local officials acted on the residents’ grievances but subsequently faced a legal complaint filed by the farm owner.

Taño expressed disappointment with Teruel over the slow pace of resolving the matter, though he cited his decision to step down was intended to help clear the way for a solution. He assured the mayor that their personal friendship remains intact.

Addressing village residents, Taño apologized for leaving public office while efforts to resolve the community’s environmental concerns were still underway.

The resignations will take effect on 10 September 2026, leaving the administrative positions in Barangay Linobayan officially vacant.
