Cacao-coconut intercropping is the planting of cacao beneath or alongside coconut trees with the latter providing shade to the former. This technique promoted by the Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Training Institute Region 4-A (ATI4A) helps farmers earn extra income from the same hectare of land.

Last 6 to10 July, the Villar Foundation Farm School and Tourist Farm of former senator Cynthia Villar in Bacoor, Cavite hosted the ATI’s second batch of trainees for cacao-coconut intercropping with Dr. Floro Catanyag of BTC Farm based in Tayabas City serving as instructor.

Villar and ATI4A head Dr. Olan Maniñgas welcomed the trainees during the opening day of the training.
