It looks like the prodigal son, with his family in tow, is on his way back to the England. It was recently announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, and their two small children are headed across the pond within the next few weeks after six years of living in Montecito, California.
News reports say that King Charles III is happy with the news and looks forward to spending time with his grandchildren.
The Sussexes first moved to the United States in July of 2020, after stepping back from their royal duties in March of that year. Dubbed as "Megxit," it was a move by the couple to assert financial independence, and explore other opportunities, while splitting time between the US and the UK. While Prince Harry has flown back and forth to the UK over the past few years, it was never with his family.
Just this past July, a reunion happened far from prying eyes, as King Charles III hosted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their two children Archie and Lilibet at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire, England. There is little known about what transpired during their visit, but is said to be an indication of better relations between the monarch and his son.
The Sussexes will be moving into a non-royal private home when they make their move, while the two children will be starting school at the start of the September term. However, they will be retaining their properties in California and Portugal.
According to reports, the King learned of the prince's plans in mid-August, not long after the family visited with him over the summer. He welcomes the opportunity to spend more time with his two grandchildren in a private capacity.
He did reiterate that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's current status as non-working royals will remain, despite their return to the country, in keeping with the couple's desire to live as private individuals.
Prince Harry and the King have had a tenuous relationship in recent years, including issues related to a security detail for the family when they are in the UK. The decision to move back is seen as a step towards a better relationship between father and son.
A report on BBC says that the Duchess of Sussex may also be returning to her acting roots with a yet-to-be-announced role, and may be part of the reason for the move. There has been no confirmation or details about it, so far.
