CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Office (MORPPO) has filed criminal charges for violation of Republic Act No. 8353, or the Anti-Rape Law of 1997, against two police trainees who were accused of raping a fellow trainee during an unauthorized team-building session at a beach in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, last week.

Police Col. Al Abenales, provincial director, said the suspects, aged 27 and 28, were arrested and subjected to inquest proceedings before the prosecutor’s office. They are now detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) provincial facility.

He said that upon receipt of the information, appropriate police action was immediately taken. A thorough investigation was conducted, including the necessary investigative and medical procedures, in accordance with established protocols.

Abenales said the team-building activity was not authorized as part of the training of new police escorts. He assured the public that the case is being handled with seriousness, impartiality and strict observance of due process.

“From the moment the incident was reported, we immediately take appropriate actions.

"We assure the public that the case will be handled fairly and in accordance with the law, while maintaining utmost confidentiality and protecting the rights and dignity of all parties concerned,” he said.

He further emphasized that MORPPO will not shield anyone from accountability, regardless of status or affiliation.

Appropriate action will be pursued based on the evidence, findings of the investigation, and applicable laws, rules and procedures.

The public is likewise urged to refrain from speculation, premature judgment, and the sharing of unverified information or details that may compromise the case or infringe upon the privacy and dignity of the parties involved.
