MCAD to host golden-hour photo meet-up at Rizal Park

The Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde invites photographers, image-makers, and camera enthusiasts to explore the fleeting qualities of light during a golden-hour photo meet-up at Rizal Park. The event is the second public learning program held in conjunction with the ongoing exhibition Olafur Eliasson: Your curious journey.
Inspired by the Icelandic-Danish artist’s exploration of light as a medium, the activity responds to his invitation “to celebrate the felt connectivity living under the same sun.” It aims to heighten awareness of the environment, particularly the qualities of natural and artificial light and how they shape perception.
Photographer and graphic designer Abdullah Mapandi will facilitate the session, discussing the importance of light in photography and its role in image-making. He will also share practical tips for photographing the cinematic golden hour, the period before sunset when sunlight becomes softer and warmer. A full-time professor and academic adviser in Benilde’s Photography Program, Mapandi is a graduate of the college’s Multimedia Arts Program. His professional experience includes freelance photography, creative department leadership, and project management for Galerie Joaquin. He also served as an exhibition associate with the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Visual Arts and Museum Division.
Golden Hour will be held on 29 August at 4 p.m. Participants will meet at the Rizal Monument in Rizal Park, along Roxas Boulevard in Ermita, Manila. The event is free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring their preferred photography equipment, whether a professional or digital camera or a mobile phone. Registration is available at tinyurl.com/MCADGoldenHour.
