Executive Secretary Ralph G. Recto assured that the government’s free rice program for poor Filipino families will continue every two months under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive that no Filipino family should go hungry.
“This is not a one-time, big-time thing. It will be given every two months. The President’s order is simple: no Filipino family should go hungry,” Recto said during a visit to Cebu, where he distributed 10 kilos of rice to about 120,000 families under the Bagong Pilipinas Rice Program.
Recto said the program also benefits farmers because the rice is purchased directly from them.
The program is supported by the P57.87-billion Local Government Support Fund, which also finances roads, water systems, health facilities and multipurpose buildings.
Recto said the LGSF could be expanded in 2027 if it proves effective.
